After a day of playing with watercolor to see what it can do students were given specific instructions to design and ultimately paint a watercolor painting. Play involved learning about washes, wet on wet technique, wet on dry technique, and dry on dry technique. They were also told about setting up a composition, how to begin to create form by using shading and leaving highlights, and the difference between positive and negative space. Each pot needed to be grounded and students were told to fill their space. After students drew in pencil they were told to outline their drawing with black sharpie. Below are the images used in the demo.
